Time of Innocence Episodes

Series 1

E01: Inspiration - [link]
E02: Dignity of a Dreamer - [link]
E03: Reunion -[link]
E04: Eclipse - [link]

This is a NON-CANNONICAL series that challenges the OFFICIAL history of Ancient Gallifreyan. Please stop messaging me with things like "But in Doctor Who this happened... " or "But didn't Rassilon do this...". If you have any questions I am delighted to answer but PLEASE keep in mind that this is a 'what if' sort of story and does not use all the elements of the mother series. Thanks :)

Sherlock Holmes : The Ever Evolving Icon (Answers)

My replies to the questions posed in the wonderful articles here: [link] $techgnotic

1. Does it bother you when the depiction of a favorite fictional literary character is radically altered in film or on TV over and over again? Or does it all depend on the quality of the depiction and the story?

Personally, I find that it depends on the character. Naturally, there will always be some consternation about changing a literary icon and morphing him into something which is attractive to a modern audience. With a character like Sherlock Holmes however, he is a character who is constantly and ever changing - who can adapt almost seamlessly to whatever the director/writer shapes him to be. In the end of the day, the character - whether it be Basil Rathbone or Benedict Cumberbatch is quintessentially the same - the aloof, eccentric, enigmatic hero with the brilliant mind.

2. Most of the muscle-bound comics superheroes beginning in the 1930s-40s also seemed to possess great intellects along with their dominating physiques. Do you think this was because of being influenced by the Holmes character of 30 years before? Or just a coincidence – since if as character has a super-strength body, why not a matching super-strength brain?

Oh definitely. I mean you see it with characters such as Carter Hall/ Hawkman or the likes of Bruce Wayne/ Batman - or even Beast from the X-Men series. Brilliant, intellectual characters who at the same time possess both strength of mind as well as strength of body - this paired with a plethora of character flaws and human weaknesses however make them both amazing and characters whom the everyday man can relate to.

3. Which Sherlock Holmes novels or short stories have you read?

I have read :

A STUDY IN SCARLET (1887)
THE SIGN OF THE FOUR (1890)

THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES

A Scandal in Bohemia, 1891 (I., II., III.)
The Red-headed League, 1891
A Case of Identity, 1891
The Boscombe Valley Mystery, 1891
The Five Orange Pips, 1891
The Man with the Twisted Lip, 1891
The Blue Carbuncle, 1892
The Speckled Band, 1892
The Engineer's Thumb, 1892
The Noble Bachelor, 1892
The Beryl Coronet, 1892
The Copper Beeches, 1892

THE MEMOIRS OF SHERLOCK HOLMES

Silver Blaze, 1892
The Yellow Face, 1893
The Stock-Broker's Clerk, 1893
The "Gloria Scott", 1893
The Musgrave Ritual, 1893
The Reigate Puzzle, 1893
The Crooked Man, 1893
The Resident Patient, 1893
The Greek Interpreter, 1893
The Naval Treaty, 1893
The Final Problem, 1893

And I'm currently reading, The Hound of the Baskervilles.

4. In which way do you prefer your adventure story hero to achieve his/her final victory?

His/her superior intellect; puzzle-solving skills.

5. Who was/is your favorite Sherlock Holmes -- and why?

Its a close tie between Robert Downey Jnr. and Benedict Cumberbatch but I think I would have to say Robert Downey Jnr. I just love the eccentricity of the character - the fact that he is so far removed from what is considered 'normal' in Victorian society and is considered something of an intolerable crock by most his peers. I think what's most attractive about this particular version is that he is so different from all the other morose, unemotional versions that came before him - that despite the darkness of his mind he is a deeply emotional man who would die for others if it meant saving them.

6. If Sherlock Holmes and Liara T'Soni are the District 3 Tributes in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Who survives and why?

Oh Holmes, hands down. He just has that survivor's streak. I mean come on - he survived falling down the Reichenbach Falls. He can survive anything!

What can I say about myself? Hmm... I'm a 24 year old Irish Gal with a love for all things artistic; be that artwork, music, theater - all of which I have dabbled in in my time. I am a former member of Clondalkin Youth Theatre in which I have done a few amateur plays. My biggest passion however is music and while I cannot play anything I like to think I have something of a good voice (mezzo-soprano). As far as my taste in music goes, I love a little bit of everything but my general tastes lie in genres of Opera, Classical, Symphonic Metal and Rock. I'm also an avid Phantom of the Opera and Doctor Who fan! In my spare time I love to roleplay and I am the head administrator of small, virtually unknown roleplay group; The Forgotten Tales.

My philosophy in life is that all religions are equal and that their is no wrong or right when it comes to what you believe in. In the end of the day, we all believe in the same thing only in different forms. I believe in Karma. As Roy Khan of Kamelot said; "All you do in life comes back to you" and he's damn right because if you do something bad to someone its gonna come back and bite you in the ass tenfold! I believe in guardian angels and that there is an afterlife, and that no one dies they just pass on to a better place after this world. I believe that no one is defined by their disabilities (be that physical, psychological or mental) and that the biggest phrase in the word disability is ABILITY! I believe that racism is wrong and that anyone who attacks a non-national because of their race is a twisted individual. I also am strongly against child abuse, abortion and animal cruelty.

Some people might not understand me but I am who I am and I cant change that. All in all, Im a bit of a sci-fi and fantasy nerd with a love of symphonic metal, techno pop/rock and classical music and who is a huge fan of musical theatre and online literature roleplaying - and yanno what? Im hella proud of it too!

I have diagnosed stress-related OCD - the kind that doesn't show on the outside but which is just as debilitating. It's not something I can help but it is something I accept. Anxiety disorders are not fashion trends. They are serious conditions which when left untreated can leave a person feeling isolated, afraid, and even convince you that you are going mad. For me, it manifests itself in unwanted thoughts that I cannot shift which cause me great anxiety but which I am thankfully managing well now for the past two years :) My OCD is part of who I am - and I'm proud of who I am. I am not my condition.
